This Day in History: 1961-08-17
A Paterson man suffered head injuries when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his 1958 sedan on his way home from work. The car skidded seventy-five feet and bounced off the curb several times before coming to rest facing the wrong way on Franklin Turnpike near Airmount Road. The driver, Joseph Harrelson, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in the Mahwah Ambulance. When he regained consciousness he explained that he had stopped off for a few drinks after he got off from work and had dozed off. (Bristow)
