10 Mahwah Stories Told By Everyday Objects
10 Mahwah Stories Told By Everyday Objects
Now Open!
Mahwah’s long history is made up of many stories. Settled first by the Lenape people, Dutch, German, and English settlers arrived in the 18th century, naming the region Franklin Township. In 1849 the township divided and Hohokus Township formed, made up of current day Mahwah, Ramsey, Allendale and Upper Saddle River. Between 1894 and 1908 the other boroughs split from Hohokus Township, which in 1944 renamed itself Mahwah Township.
Each of the items included in this exhibit tells one fascinating Mahwah story. There are many more to be told in future exhibits. In selecting these items we sought to provide a sense of Mahwah’s many neighborhoods, its famers, gentlemen, workers and communities. We hope to expand the exhibit in future years to include more stories and more Mahwah artifacts. If you have an interesting object that you would like to share, please contact the Museum!
