Donald Cooper Model Railroad
The Donald Cooper Model Railroad – A Permanent Exhibit at the Mahwah Museum
Open Saturdays from 1 pm – 4 pm
Get on board with the Donald Cooper Model Railroad – the closer you look, the more you will see. A four-level-high digitally controlled model train layout has something for every age, young and old. The layout honors the importance of the railroad in Mahwah’s development and history.
Different trains are dispatched every weekend – stop by and see what’s on the tracks!
Please note: entrance to the Donald Cooper Model Railroad exhibit is included with admission to the museum. Admission is free to Museum members and children ages 18 and under.
Take a look at what’s on and around the tracks. All videos are filmed and produced by the Train Crew.

Are you a train buff? The Donald Cooper Model Railroad is one of our most popular permanent exhibits. The layout is a favorite stop for children of all ages. It takes a crew to maintain and continue to develop this exhibit.
Our Donald Cooper Model Railroad volunteer team meets on Wednesday evenings year round to work on our large HO, DCC-controlled model railroad layout. Some of our volunteers are carpenters, electricians, computer experts, train maintenance people, artists, or model railroad engineers. In addition, some like to volunteer as docents for the railroad exhibit on weekends to run the railroad and answer questions from museum visitors. The railroad is constantly growing and changing, so help is always appreciated. Our railroad volunteers also keep the trains running for students, scout groups and other special occasions.
