At the State Volunteer Firemen’s Convention in Atlantic City, Bergen County Freeholder Peter W. Passuro announced that a county fire and police training school would be established in Mahwah. The old Henion farm consisting of 83 acres on Campgaw Road had been purchased by the county and construction would begin shortly of a 2.5 story building, fire pits, sprinkler systems, pumping docks. fire towers, a smoke house and other related equipment.
