The strike at the American Brake Shoe Factory reached a complete impasse. The Company claimed that the strike had been caused by the dismissal of Steve Sochulak months earlier. The Union said that “conditions of contract” were the main cause of the dispute and the Sochulak case had entered into the matter afterward. A U.S. Mediation Board hearing on the case scheduled for August 9th had not been held. The Union said they wouldn’t appear without a contract. Meanwhile the picketing continued at the plant. (Bristow)
