The Suffern Erie Railroad station master notified the Mahwah police at 10am that a dog was trapped on the tracks just south of the Route 202 underpass. A train was expected through at10:15am, so Officer Wickham of the Mahwah police responded quickly. He found a collie whose chain had become entangled with a railroad tie. Using a hacksaw, he cut the chain just in time to free the animal before the train arrived. Since it was not wearing a license or other identification, the dog was turned over to the dog warden, Harry Babcock. (Bristow)
