This Day in History: 1949-11-08
An aggressive campaign by Democratic Party newcomer Joseph Krupinski fell just five votes short of winning a post on the Mahwah Township Committee. Republican Charles S. Hallenbach ran up an impressive 157 vote majority in the First District (Cragmere and Masonicus) to offset Krupinski’s majorities in District Two (West Mahwah) and District Three (Fardale). In every District Krupinski ran ahead of the NJ State Democratic ticket. 1,750 votes were cast, according to Republican Campaign Chairman Dator which is 87% of the registered voters in Mahwah.
