This Day in History: 1948-07-10
The New Jersey National Guard departed by train for Pine Camp New York for their annual two week training maneuvers. Pvt. Griffin Holbrook Smith, Franklin Turnpike and Red Bacon of Fardale were among the trainees. They were scheduled to qualify on heavy weapons and small arms, take part in a two day maneuver off the base camp, and undergo intensive unit training.
