This Day in History: 1947-07-14
When Board member Alfred Heflin offered to clear away the weeds which almost obscured the Darlington School for nothing, the other members of the School Board insisted that his men be paid. The District had the money, they insisted. Finance Chairman John Zisgen reported that bond numbers 46, 47, and 48, each for $1,000, had been retired. Only $27,000 of the $75,000 debt incurred with the building of the Betsy Ross School still remained outstanding, he revealed. (Bristow)
