This Day in History: 1947-07-07
The Mahwah Police Department completed a survey of traffic at the intersection of Route 202 and Franklin Turnpike at the New York State line. It had been requested by the State Highway Commission to assist them in responding to the request for a traffic light there. On Sunday, July 6th, there were 8,931 cars through the intersection, and Monday the 7th, an off day, there were 7,962. There had been ten accidents at the corner during the previous year. The Commission authorized the light to be installed after receiving the survey and a request from the State Motor Vehicle Commission. No date was announced for the light to go into operation.
