This Day in History: 1946-06-13
The final meeting of the Committee to suggest a suitable memorial for those from Mahwah who served in World War II held its final meeting in the Fire House. Each organization in town had been asked to name a representative to meet together and make a recommendation. The group drew up a formal resolution calling for a community house especially for the use of the Township’s young people. The figure of about $50,000 was suggested. Although no consensus could be reached on the location of the house, the playground on Ramapo Avenue was most frequently suggested. The money was to be raised by public subscription with any shortfall being made up by public funds. (Bristow)
