This Day in History: 1942-07-09
This was the first of three consecutive days in which local schools would be open for motorists to register for gas rationing books. Pleasure car owners would receive a ration book and an “A” sticker for their windshields. Drivers of trucks and commercial vehicles had to apply at the Price and Ration Board Office in Ramsey. Another possible substance for future rationing was state tax revenues which had been falling steadily as non-essential driving was curtailed. The only alternative was to cut services or raise taxes to cover the shortfall. Where have we heard this before? (Bristow)
