This Day in History: 1941-02-19
Ramsey Borough Clerk Raymond E. Rockefeller announced his resignation from the post he had held since 1932. He had just received an appointment from Congressman Martin Dies of Texas as a special investigator for the House of UnAmerican Activities Committee. He was to operate out of the Committee’s offices in the Federal Court Building at Foley Square in Manhattan. Councilmen Franklin D. Haring and Winfield began to stir up interest in a testimonial dinner for Rockefeller. It was to be held within two weeks. It was hoped that Congressman J. Parnell Thomas of Allendale, the Vice President of the “Dies Committee” would be the main speaker for the evening.
