This Day in History: 1938-03-24
The International Relations discussion Group considered the topic of “Adequate National Defense” but the discussion centered on the situation in Eastern Europe following the annexation of Austria by Hitler’s Germany. Germany’s ambitions regarding Poland, Lithuania and Czechoslovakia were considered. They reached the conclusion that Germany’s ambitions there were not related to nationality, since the populations were Slavs and not German speaking, for the most part, but were focused on the region’s resources.
