This Day in History: 1934-09-20
The Township Treasurer, Harold E. Johnson, reported to the Township Committee that it had been necessary to purchase clothing, shoes and rubbers for a number of children from families on relief so that they could go to school. This was not a usual expense which the Township had assumed in the past so the heads of the families involved were told that they had to work to pay off the costs of the clothing involved. No details were revealed as to how this work obligation was to be fulfilled.
