This Day in History: 1929-07-02
“The grand opening and public inspection” of Ramsey’s newest store was marked when “The Pantry” opened its doors between 2 and 10PM. This was a branch of a smilier establishment in Wyckoff. The proprietors guaranteed that every loaf of bread, every layer and loaf cake, and every pie, cookie, and macaroon was baked in the Wyckoff kitchens by women bakers personally trained by Kathryn Louise Barbour. New stock was brought in several times a day, they promised. In addition they had a delicatessen department and prepared packed lunches for school children or workers who could not go home for lunch. The customer was promised that this way they could return to the kitchens of their Grandmother’s time. (Bristow)
