The entertainment highlight of the weekend was the appearance at the Lyceum Theatre in Paterson of De Wolf Hopper’s comic opera company in 2 performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Mikado” and H. M. S. Pinafore”. It was billed as “the event of the season”. Tickets were priced from 50 cents to $2 for the evening performance of Mikado and from 27 cents to $1. Between the acts of the operettas Hopper recited his famous baseball poem “Casey at the Bat”.
