This Day in History: 1921-04-12
Louisa Godeski was killed in an accident in front of her home on Ramapo Valley Road. She was playing along the side of the road when a Standard Oil motor truck came by at a slow speed, driven by J.J. Smith of Ridgewood. She apparently tried to jump on the side of the truck, fell off and the rear wheel crushed her head, killing her instantly. Smith was released on $1,000 bail pending an autopsy. He is reputed to be a very careful driver who has never had a accident. (Bristow)
