The Borough Council of Ramsey passed a resolution that the German language Harmonie Singing Society cease meeting for the duration of the war. The society announced that they had already done so and protested the slur on their patriotism involved in the ban. One member cancelled his subscription to the Ramsey Journal, an offer gleefully accepted by the editor. (Bristow)
