This Day in History: 1917-10-17
On Wednesday the deer season had it first fatality. David Holdrum of Darlington was hunting deer up near the McMillan Reservoir in Darlington. He fired at a noise near him, thinking it was a deer. Instead, he shot and killed William Marshall of Oakland. At the time he was arrested, it was thought that he was 18 years old. In fact he is 16. He has been released on $1,000 bail furnished by this employer Mrs. Charles Hohler. (Brostow)
