This Day in History: 1911-07-03
Mr. Albert Winter found a “black-hand” (“blackmail?”) letter on the door of his dairy. His house and barn would be burned if he did not place $200 under a stone under a certain tree. Although County detectives Blauvelt and Couter watched the tree carefully on the appointed night no one appeared to claim the money. Nothing further has been heard of the case which attracted intense local interest. (Bristow)
