This Day in History: 1901-06-17
The Hohokus Township Board of Health declared that there was no smallpox epidemic in town. Dr. Zabriskie had pronounced a Suffern case chicken pox but a Paterson doctor called it smallpox and Paterson papers had printed a number of stories magnifying the case into an epidemic. The Mahwah Depot and Hagerman’s house as well as the residence of the patient have been disinfected. The Town Board urged precautions against the spread of any communicable disease. (Bristow)
