Most people who may have lived in Bergen County for most or all of their lives know that there is history here. But they truly are not aware of the extent, the totality of what has happened here and what still exists. How many people have been to Historic Newbridge Landing and are aware of the role it played in the Revolution? Is there anyone here now who knew that slavery was in play in Bergen County? And so much more.
Authors Bob Nesoff and Howard Joseph Cohn spent the better part of two years traveling around the county to photograph historic sites and to research the history of our county. Their book was only able to scratch the surface because of constraints from the publisher, but it has amazing historical facts and photos.
Bob Nesoff is a multi-award-winning journalist and author. He was a reporter for The Record and then the Newark News, the once biggest and most prestigious New Jersey Newspaper. He has been listed in Who’s Who in the Media and Communications and Who’s Who in America since 1998. He was Executive Editor of New York Lifestyles Magazine and president of the Working Press Association of New Jersey and national president of the North American Travel Journalists Association. He covered many historical events and was the only reporter on scene when the burial site of Baylor’s Dragoons was discovered after more than two centuries. He is the author of two books and is working on two more.
Howard Joseph Cohn holds a master’s degree in fine arts from CCNY and an MFA in printmaking from Herbert Lehman College, CUNY. A retired New York teacher, he served on the Board of Directors of the Bergen County Museum of Art and Science and on the Executive Board of Trustees of the New Jersey State Museum. He was president of the New Jersey Paleontological Society and also served as president of Beth Tikvah New Milford Jewish Center.
