At the Mahwah School Board meeting, a letter was read from Education Commissioner Charles E. Elloit urging boards to buy all of their coal for the coming school year as soon as possible and store it for later use. The Board acted immediately, accepting the bid from A.J. Winter & Son for $10.35 a ton, even though it was the only one they had received. The Board authorized the storage of some of the coal for the Darlington School in a shed outside of the school and ordered that the bins in the Mahwah School be extended to accept the entire shipment immediately.
