Lionel Trains & Other Historical Memorabilia at the Mahwah Museum

A September 2025 – June 2026 Mahwah Museum Exhibit

The World of Model Trains Exhibit features the Museum’s G scale and Lionel trains, usually on static display or packed away. The G scale or Garden Railway trains were a gift to the museum by four different individuals. This is the first time we have had a chance to unpack them and display them to the public, donated by: Marilyn Steneken, Grover Forster, George Margolis and Ed Skurna. These trains were developed to be displayed outside in gardens. That is the reason they are so large. They are designed to be weather resistant and can be operated in all types of weather.

Lionel has always been a part of many families for generations. From its beginnings in 1900 to today, Lionel has always been very popular with train buffs and collectors. The Mahwah Museum is fortunate to have a very diverse collection of Lionel trains from the very beginnings right up to the most modern models of today!
