This Day in History: 1942-01-13
At the Board of Health meeting, Sanitary Inspector Howard W. Cochran reported on the case of George Abrams and his goats. Abrams had been admitted to the Hackensack Hospital. He had been living, Cochrane reported, in a rough shack on Hilltop Avenue. The shack contained his bed and his ten goats. There was no running water or sanitary facilities. Cochran reported that the SPCA had been called to take care of the goats. The Board ordered Cochrane to find out who owned the property where Abrams shack was located and have the owner remove the goats from the Township as a health menace and a violation of local ordinances.
