Miss Annie Winter attended the Book and Author luncheon at the Hotel Astor in New York City. The feature of the occasion was the presentation of the National Book Awards by the National Booksellers’ Association. The winners for 1939 were John Steinbeck’s “Grapes of Wrath” for fiction and Antoine de St. Exupery’s “Wind, Sand and Stars”. A Gutenberg Bible valued at $100,000 was on display.
