This Day in History: 1875-08-26
Impressive ceremonies marked the laying of the cornerstone of the Ramsey Reformed Church. The new church was complete except for the stone so that the dedicatory services could be held simultaneously. The corner stone was filled with a Bible, various newspapers and coins, and a history of the establishment of the church. Since the new congregation had split off from the Mahwah Reformed Church with some bitterness, the Rev. George McGee of Mahwah was notable by his absence at the ceremony. (Bristow)
