“This Month in Mahwah History” ran from 1985-1992 in the Home and Store News and listed a series of events that took place during that month. Bristow organized his columns in three ways: by a “T” system Bristow used of numbering (no guide survives), on index cards, organized by month and date, and as the columns were published in the newspaper. The index cards also have the “T” numbers written on them, which may have helped Bristow keep track of which events he has already included in his columns. The index cards contain citations to the source of the information, most from the Ramsey Journal. “Events in Mahwah History” ran in the Home and Store News in 1993;
Series 4: Historical Documents: This series contains historical materials collected by John Bristow detailing the histories of Mahwah, Suffern, Rockland County, and other topics. It has been arranged by original and photocopied materials, and then topically. Oversized materials are at the end of the series.
Series 5: Research Materials: This series contains research materials gathered by John Bristow on local history created post 1960, historic preservation, town historical societies, graveyard restoration, the Moffat Road Cemetery restoration.
Series 6: Mahwah Organizations: This series contains materials related to John Bristow’s association with organizations in Mahwah, organized alphabetically by organization name.
Series 7: Photographs: This series contains photographs and slides used in John Bristow’s historical presentations. There appear to be some duplication–photographs made from the slides, and in most cases the photographs have no identification, but the slides do. There are photographs of historic places in Mahwah, historic figures,
Separated Materials: Duplicates were discarded; records of the Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission and Mahwah Historic Sites were separated to those collections and duplicates discarded. Loose newspaper clippings were separated for digitization. Complete newspapers have been organized as the John W. Bristow Local Newspaper Collection.
