This Day In History: 1962-02-27
District voters decisively defeated the same school budget which had been rejected in a light vote on February 13th. Instead of losing in West Mahwah and passing in the other Districts, this time it was turned down in every district. 1,050 of the 3,570 voters went to the polls. The Township Committee by law had thirty days to make cuts in the budget. If the Committee took no action the State Commissioner of Education would make the decision. Both the current expense budget and the capital outlay budget were rejected.
