Hopes for an overpass over Route 17 at Ramapo Avenue were given a major boost when it was announced at the Township Board meeting that the County Highway Committee had proposed a $250,000,000 highway program for the County which included eliminating most of the traffic lights on the highway and the installation of cloverleafs. A bond issue and a 1 cent per gallon increase in the gasoline tax would pay for the improvements.
