This Day in History: 1938-08-09
Only one bid was received for painting various schools in the district. As a result, the Board decided to postpone most of the needed work until the Christmas vacation in the hope that more bids could be encouraged. Meanwhile the single bidder L. O. Salling was given two jobs. He was to paint the outside of the Mountain School for $60 and a classroom and closet at the Darlington School for $12.50. The colors were to be chosen by the School Board Clerk. Work was to be completed before the opening of school. (Bristow)
