This Day In History: 1934-02-25
The Mahwah Fire Department appealed to the public to let the firemen do their work when a fire breaks out. So many people had been so anxious to watch the fire that they had been racing their cars to get to the scene of the fire before the fire trucks get there. This was especially a problem in some of the more rural parts of the Township where the roads were narrow and unpaved. They said that they were considering asking the Township Committee to pass an ordinance similar to the one in force in Ridgewood, prohibiting cars from following fire trucks or proceeding them.
