This Day in History: 1932-07-29
The Ramsey Athletic Club announced that it had arranged a charity game with the Hillburn Fire Department baseball team on the High School diamond. All the proceeds were to go to help the unemployed. The Ramsey club was to obtain a list of the unemployed from the Poormistress Mrs. Ella Rouse and distribute baskets of food to them. This was believed a more effective way of helping the poor than giving them a direct money grant. There was to be no admission charge to the game, but a silver collection would be taken from the spectators. (Bristow)
