This Day in History: 1916-07-04
The 23rd Regiment of New York National Guard was given a special Independence Day treat by Justice Rodgers. The soldiers are on their way to Mexico (to take part in the expedition against Francisco Villa?). The Judge had his house and grounds decorated with over 50 Japanese lanterns and numerous American flags. He provided a beautiful and loud fireworks display. Particularly effective was the “red fire” in the flags. (Bristow)
