This Day in History: 1911-07-28
J. R. B. Smith, the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles for New Jersey has ordered that no more 8-day tourist registrations be issued. From now on any motorist from New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware or Maryland who wishes to drive on New Jersey roads will have to buy a regular annual registration. License fees are $5, $8, and $10, according to horse power. His action was prompted by the fact that the New York State Legislature has adjourned without passing reciprocity legislation. If any one of the neighboring states relents, the $1 temporary registration fee will probably be restored.
