General Robert Erskine–Mine Master and Mapmaker of the American Revolution

Erskine’s name has such significance in Ringwood Borough history that a lake and a school have been named for him. He was an engineer and inventor who was appointed by General George Washington as geographer and surveyor-general for the American Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He mapped accurate and detailed maps that enabled them to outmaneuver the British on many occasions.
William “Billy” Neumann, an active historic preservationist, photographer and popular historian will be on hand to delve into the rich history of Ringwood’s beloved engineer and inventor, who was appointed by General George Washington as geographer and surveyor-general for the American Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
