Since the mid 1960’s, Tom Doyle was Les Paul’s guitar builder and repairman, soundman/engineer, producer and emcee at all the shows at both Fat Tuesdays and Iridium clubs in NYC for over 26 years. Tom was Les’ trusted confidant, co-inventor, sounding board, fixer, and close personal friend for almost five decades… right up until the time of his passing. Les counted on Tom to fix his guitars when he tore them apart in a mad dash towards some sort of experiment. Tom helped him design pickups, electronics, performance systems, his stage shows, consulted with him regarding his business with Gibson and so much more. Tom dedicated his entire life to his friend Les and to the music made by the electric guitar he created. Tom describes it as “a hell of a ride.” It’s been said many times, but never was it so true – Tom was “the man behind the man”…..
In this virtual Zoom workshop, Tom will demonstrate the proper techniques of the basic set-up and maintenance of acoustic and electric guitars. Tom will also demonstrate the correct way to change strings, adjust the neck, assess the nut, adjust the pick-up height, and set the intonation and action so that your instrument is ready for whenever you are. Whether you are a seasoned guitarist or a beginner, you will benefit from Tom’s clear and concise instruction. There will be ample time where participants can ask specific questions about their instrument or Tom’s close friendship with Les Paul. This is an unique opportunity to learn from one of the best!
