On June 7, 2021, at 7:30 pm, the Mahwah Museum will be bringing together friends of Les Paul to celebrate his 106th birthday. Gary Mazzaroppi and Paul Nowinski, former members of Les’ trio, Chris Lentz, Les’ longtime photographer, Walter Brinkman, and Wade Morgan will all be sharing their memories of Les Paul. This Zoom event is free and open to all, but registration is required on the Mahwah Museum website, mahwahmuseum.org.
Fat Tuesdays and the Iridium, venues where Les Paul famously performed, organized big birthday bashes to honor him. Gary Mazzaroppi and Paul Nowinski, former members of Les’ trio, will share their memories playing together. Les’ long time photographer, Chris Lentz, who also attended, will share pictures taken during those celebrations. Walter Brinkman will share remembrances and pictures of Les’ 70th birthday party at a private residence in Belleville, NJ. Wade Morgan, a member of the Les Paul In Mahwah Committee, will share his recollections attending Les’ 72nd birthday at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC in 1987. Many guitar legends were in attendance and surged close to the stage, “their eyes glued to his fingers” as Les tore through three of his instrumentals. Attendees will be invited to share their own memories of past birthday celebrations.
