Collection Details
Biographical / Historical Note: Albert O. Bogert (1900-1980), was a real estate, real estate appraiser, an insurance broker, who had his office at 245 E. Ridgewood Ave. John H. Rogers (1935-2022), succeeded him in the real estate business. The archives includes papers saved by both men and includes multiple listing information sheets, appraisals for taxation, insurance, and uses, information about developments, historical information, and more. Rogers bequeathed their combined archive to the Ridgewood Public Library.
Collection Description: The collection features real estate records for properties in Mahwah, including appraisals done for homes and businesses, and sales information about specific homes. The two topics that are represented in more detail are the appraisal and sale of the Stephen Birch property to the State of New Jersey for the construction of Ramapo College in 1970, and real estate records regarding the 1955 widening of Route 17. Fifty-one photographs in the collection have been added to CatalogIt.
Arrangement Description: The collection has been divided into different materials. Many photographs and maps remain in the folders with the records that deal with them. Loose photographs and maps are gathered in their own folders.
- Appraisals are organized by the name of the owner
- Sales brochures and reports are organized by Places (for developments) and Streets (for individual houses and buildings).
- Correspondence and Reports, Newspaper Clippings, Maps and Photographs are arranged alphabetically.
Separated Materials: Other materials from this collection were dispersed to the Ridgewood Public Library, the Bergen County Historical Society, the Elmwood Park Historical Society, the Glen Rock Historical Society, the Upper Saddle River History Society, and the Wyckoff Historical Society.
One oversized item has been stored in the Mahwah Museum’s Oversized Box 3.
