On Sunday October 20 at 2:00 p.m.  Bill Dator, Chairman and longtime member of the board of trustees of Ramapo College and Mahwah Museum trustee will present an informative lecture outlining the formation of Ramapo College.  Part of the Mahwah Museum Lecture Series, the lecture will take place in the York Room at Ramapo College, 505 Ramapo Valley Rd. Mahwah, NJ 07430.

As the Chairman and a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of Ramapo College Bill is uniquely qualified to give this talk. In 1969 he wrote to authorities in Trenton, suggesting the Birch Estate as the best site for the new state college being planned for Bergen County. Bill knew and worked with the Birch family and was the agent whom arranged for the state of NJ and the Birch Estate to come together. Many other places were examined as a possible location before Mahwah was settled upon as the site for that new college. Bill will tell this story.

This lecture is hosted by Mahwah Museum, located at 201 Franklin Turnpike Mahwah, NJ 07430.  The Museum will reopen for the season on Sept. 22, 2019, featuring these exhibits: A College Comes to Mahwah, Ramapo College 1965-1975, Palisades Amusement Park Comes to Mahwah, and, Mahwah’s His-TREE, 75 years as a township.
