COLLECTION SUMMARY:  A collection of family materials related to 30 Armour Road in Mahwah.  The collection includes original plans and specifications for the house, built in 1913 and some photographs and other ephemera.

Collection Details

Biographical / Historical Note:  The original owners of the home were Howard F. Holman (1878-1954) and Clara Grimm Holman (1885-1970). Born in Chicago, Howard Holman worked for the Diamond Match Company, serving as Secretary and eventually chairman of the board of directors. He was also a director of the National Bank and Trust Company in Ramsey and the Mahwah Savings and Loan.  He was the president of the Cragmere Association in 1918 and headed the Schools Committee in Mahwah. He married Clara Grimm in 1908. They had three children, Richard, Howard F. Holman, Jr. and Clara Louise Holman.  Lindsey Holman Brown is the daughter of Richard Holman.

Dudley Van Antwerp (1867-1934) operated an architectural firm in Montclair, NJ and designed over 100 houses there and in nearby towns. The Holman house was a Craftsman-style design which was built in 1913. It was known for its gardens and had a swimming pool

Collection Description: The collection includes a full set of blueprints for the 1913 design and specifications of the home, as well as photographs of the home and gardens, biographical materials on its architect, and information about the Mahwah Canning Club.

Arrangement Description: The collection is organized topically by folder, and alphabetically. There are three rolled item.

Separated Materials: Duplicate newspaper clippings were discarded.
