Mahwah’s Relation to the 19th Century History of the United States

On Thursday June 7, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Yvonne Beatrice, a recently retired American History teacher at Mahwah High School will present this lecture. Part of  Mahwah Museum’s Lecture Series, the lecture will take place at Mahwah Museum 201 Franklin Tunrpike Mahwah, NJ. Admission is $3, free for museum members. Contact programs@mahwahmuseum.org for reservations or call 201-512-0099. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

If you held a mirror to 19th century Mahwah, what image would be reflected therein? Well, for over a dozen years, students participating in the Mahwah Project at Mahwah High School have found the answer to be…America. During this lecture Yvonne Beatrice will explore the evidence that is found in Mahwah that places it in sync, for better or worse, with the 19th century history of the United States. Yvonne Beatrice has been a teacher of American history for 25 years.  She has been recognized as: The 2012 Daughters of the American Revolution New Jersey Teacher of the Year, The 2010 Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History’s New Jersey Preserve America History Teacher of the Year, The College of New Jersey Outstanding Educator Award 2009, Yvonne’s students were featured in the 2013 NJEA Classroom Close-Up segment entitled “Local Historian”.

This lecture is hosted by Mahwah Museum, located at 201 Franklin Turnpike.  The Museum is currently featuring the new exhibits Kilmer: The Man and WWI Sarajevo to Versailles as well as the continuing exhibits Mahwahs Herstory: The Changing Roles of Women in Mahwah’s History, and Medicine in Mahwah. Permanent exhibits are Les Paul in Mahwah and The Donald Cooper Model Railroad, which is open weekends 1-4 pm. The Museum is open weekends and Wednesdays from 1-4 pm.; admission $5 for non-members, members and children are free.
