Mahwah Museum provides a unique experience on June 23 to hear three of the long serving members of the Les Paul Trio. Lou Pallo is unique in having served longer than anyone with the legendary guitarist. He first started playing with Les in various venues in Northern New Jersey after Mary Ford left her husband in 1963. Les used to track where Lou was playing and sit in with him. Over time, as they formed a close friendship, Lou encouraged Les to come out of retirement and the two started playing regularly in New York City first at Fat Tuesdays and then at the Iridium. A friend of the museum, Lou has played at our event many times. This accomplished guitarist was a close friend and right-hand man of Les Paul for close to forty years.
Joining this talented musician are two other former members of the Les Paul Trio,
Gary Mazzaroppi and Frank Vignola,
as well as touring guitar musician, performer and educator, Vinny Raniolo:
Frank Vignola is one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing before the public today. His stunning virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world’s top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Tommy Emmanuel, and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his “Five Most Admired Guitarists List” for the Wall Street Journal. Vignola’s jaw dropping technique explains why the New York Times deemed him “one of the brightest stars of the guitar”.
In addition to playing for years with Les Paul at Fat Tuesdays and the Iridium, Gary Mazzaroppi traveled extensively with the Lionel Hampton Big Band and accompanied jazz legends Buddy Rich and Charlie Byrd as well as Willie Nelson, Alicia Keys and Chuck Mangione.
As a touring guitar musician, performer, and educator, Vinny Raniolo is best known for his accompanying skills and is a very high demand rhythm guitarist and he has performed in some of the world’s most illustrious venues, including New York’s Lincoln Center.
